31 Die Shortly After Boat Sinks In Uganda In Lake Victoria

According to recent reports, At 31 people have been reported dead in Uganda shortly after a boat (party) which was loaded with more than 90 passengers was reported to have capsized in Lake Victoria. This incident happened just next to the capital city of Uganda, Kampala. This information was disclosed by officials earlier on Sunday.

From the official reports, The boat had overturned and sank in the lake at about 7 p.m. on Saturday, Zurah Ganyana, who is the senior police officer in the area said. In her report, She said that about 27 individuals were rescued after the incident overnight. Nevertheless, as the rescue continues, the officials in the area said that the death toll is expected to rise.

According to Officials reports, this specific boat was used to transport passengers on pleasure cruise, this according to the residents was a popular weekend activity which was attended by young people in Kampala, however, this particular boat didn’t reach it’s destination rather it capsized just close to the shore.

Officer Ganyana in a statement said that the boat had been grounded for some time due to it’s poor condition. According to her,  this boat had no valid license and it was operating under unauthorized terms.

Earlier on Sunday, a police helicopter was lowed over the last spot where this particular boat sank, in the meanwhile, a team of professional divers was released to search for bodies which went under calm waters. However, a crowd of onlookers just stood on the shore of the beach watching an the rescue team did all they could in their recovery efforts.

On the other hand the police officers carried all the victims  bodies using tarpaulins to a close truck, which was occasionally drawing wailing loud sounds from the onlookers. As the rescue continued, One of the young woman, who were watching saw a victim and she apparently recognized the person, immediately she collapsed and was rushed to the hospital.

Whatsoever, The couple, owners of the boat were also among the dead victims, this was according to Officer Ganyana report.
